Are These the “Last Days?” – A Biblical Checklist
The great ship Titanic was said to be an unsinkable ship the very definition of safety, but, in the first minutes after the great ship struck the iceberg, the passengers had quite different and contrasting reactions. The collision occurred 20 minutes to midnight and some whose sleep was interrupted by the jolt and then the quiet of the stalled ship, simply went back to sleep. Those engaged and winning in card game were finding it difficult to leave their winning streak. Still others were drunk and could not make sense of the warnings to abandon ship. But some, those intimate with travel by ship recognized that something was very wrong and they paid attention to the continuing developments.
Today, January 2022, there is something similar happening, not only in America, but in the entire world. We are sensing the shaking of loss of liberty and freedoms, fear of the COVID or other variants we are continually being warned that are coming. We are experiencing rampant inflation and uncertainty of our future economy and seeing expanding political tolerance for lawlessness.
Some people are asleep in their awareness because they are so tightly focused on keeping the spinning plates of drama in their lives spinning. Some sense that something is not right but put their energy in staying emotionally upright even as society’s deck starts listing. Still others think, “Are these the last days mentioned in the Bible?” Let’s see!
One of the things God has done to validate His written Word was to tell us the future before it happens which is called, prophecy. Prophecy validates that the author (God) resides outside of time and knows these things prior to them occurring on our time-line. Isaiah 46:8-10 “Remember this, and show yourselves men; recall to mind O you transgressors. Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure,’”
So – What does the Bible say about the “last days?” My comments are in [brackets].
The Apostle Timothy said in 2 Timothy 3:
“But know this, that in the last days:
[ ] Perilous times will come
- Lovers of money
- Proud boasters and blasphemers
- Disobedient to parents
- Unthankful, Unholy, unloving and unforgiving
- Slanderers
- Without self-control, brutal, (lawbreakers). [Are we seeing a surge of lawlessness? Yes!]
- Despisers of good
- Traitors, headstrong, haughty
- Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
- People having a form of godliness but denying its power.” – (Religious activities with no relationship with God).
The Apostle Peter said this about the “last days.”
Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first:
That scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep (died), all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’ But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
What Jesus said about the last days in Matthew 24:
Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age? And Jesus answered and said to them:
- Take heed that no one deceives you. [We seem to be living in an age of deception].
- For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom [Yet future – Russia vs Ukraine, China vs Taiwan, Israel vs Iran].
- Famines [Future – global supply chain issues?].
- Pestilences [COVID is a pestilence according to Merriam-Webster].
- Earthquakes in various places [Yet future].
Last days evidence in Revelation
When you start to see Thanksgiving displays in stores, you know that Christmas is coming, just around the corner. Likewise when you see technology such as super-computers and sub-diural microchips and talk about the Forth Industrial Revolution, the Great Reset and whispers of a coming cashless global society, you can know that the Anti-Christ earthly kingdom is coming soon. For thousands of years the readers of Revelation were puzzled as to how a leader could control so many people as implied in the Apostle John writings. Now we know, the technology is now here and available to do just that.
How close are we to the arrival of the anti-Christ? The following may be a clue. Note: Anti-Christ basically means: In place of Christ.
Charles, Prince of Wales spoke at the COP26 Climate Summit on November 1 2021. In his speech he said at the 2:40 minute mark: TRANSCRIPT
“We also know that countries, many of whom are burdened by growing levels of debt, simply cannot afford to go green. Here we need a vast military style campaign to marshal the strength of the global private sector, with trillions at his disposal far beyond global GDP, and with the greatest respect, beyond even the governments of the world’s leaders. It offers the only real prospect of achieving fundamental economic transition.”
“At HIS disposal.” OK, just who is the prince referring to? Nobody seems to know but it is a man to be equipped with the power of trillions of dollars and ability to marshal a “vast military campaign.” Kind of makes you shutter a bit when you consider the nature of the “military” whose campaigns specialize in killing and destroying things.
So, are these the “Last Days?” When evaluating the Biblical indicators, it appears that this Titanic world is listing so far that the deck chairs are starting to slide. What to do? Board God’s lifeboat without delay. God’s offer of personal salvation is available to all who seek it. Here’s how.
Next up, the “Titanic” metaphor continues.
