We are Living Psalm 2
It is interesting, Psalm 1 details the life of a person who chooses to engage and maintain a relationship with his Creator.
Psalm 1: Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
I am soon to be 70 years old and when I review my life, the above turns out to be a fitting description of my life. Not that my life has been totally free from problems, but overall, wonderfully blessed and I give God ALL the credit for this.
Psalm 2 is a contrast to Psalm 1 and amazingly summarizes the current times we live in. It has to do with people that have a inner longing to separate themselves from their Creator (and His precepts) as far as possible.
Psalm 2: Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed (Jesus), saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
Psalm 2 talks about people on both a world and personal level that somehow think they are going to successfully separate themselves from God. Isn’t this precisely what we are witnessing in our society today? God is the Giver of life and our rulers make killing the innocent unborn a high priority. God as the Creator assigns gender and we now have a society that is obsessed with people changing their gender. God establishes marriage between a man and a woman, and now, heterosexual marriage is openly mocked. The family unit was started by God and the importance of families in a society is not encouraged, instead, we are told that, “it takes a village,” and women can do better than to be “stay at home mothers.” God’s rules say that crime must be punished and now we have a society that seems to care more for criminals than ordinary law-abiding citizens. Our leaders declare that the police are the problem. In general, all morality associated with God is set aside or nullified.
Yet, even with attitudes towards God like this, He has graciously Set Jesus on a hill in Jerusalem whose sacrificial death secures eternal life to those who put their trust in Him. God’s Hand of Salvation is stretched out still to even those who mock and disdain Him. While us mortals are alive, yes we can separate ourselves from God or from anything that reminds us of Him. But what happens after we die? The Bible says that after death comes judgment and for those who desire separation from God, their dream will finally become true. Sadly, it will end up being a total and eternal nightmare because when people are separated from God, they are separated from all good things that He has blessed us with. In Revelation 16, God rolls back the creation and we get a preview of what hell will be like. It is interesting that with all these those judgments, the people still blaspheme God.
Jesus said that being eternally separated from God would only be a place of eternal torment, pain and “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Frank Sinatra sang about the glories of doing life his own “way” which seems to be the popular thing to do in our society right now. Jesus said: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” [Mat 7:13-14]. What is so difficult? Acknowledging that you are a sinner and humbly confessing that to God and signing onto His Way of Salvation. The choice boils down to accepting God’s way or continue on your own way. I find it interesting that Satan’s original lure was that they (Adam and Eve) could become their own gods [Genesis 3:4-5] and that appeal is still prevalent with us.
Jesus said: “In My Father’s house are many mansions (dwelling places); if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” [John 14:2-6].
Are you offended that there is only “one way?” A “Way” that excludes your ideas on how you would do it or what you consider fair and just? I am just glad that there is “a Way.” Right now is your time to choose, choose wisely with eternity in mind… here’s how: Salvation – God’s Way
