Is it Reasonable to Believe that Our Creator has Communicated with Us?
In my blog article “Created in the Image of God – Risky Business,” I wrote about the attributes that God has given us so we would be able to effectively fellowship and relate to Him. If the Creator has indeed created a “just right” habitat for us and has also created us with the aforementioned Godly attributes, would it not make sense that He would communicate to us who He is and for what purpose He has made us? And, would it make sense that He would include some facet to verify that the message was actually from Him and not from an impostor? It seems reasonable to me.
Before launching into the topic’s main flow, let’s consider the difficulty of The Eternal God (which the Bible says is a Spirit) relating to mortals like us. In broad strokes, the Bible says that the purpose of our lives is to find The Creator and choose whether or not to love Him and accept His gracious offer of being adopted into His eternal family. If this is His reason, the method that He uses to communicate with us is vitally important. If He uses measures to compel or force us to love Him, the nature of our love for Him would be mutated and impure. For example, He could roll back the heavens and show us His power and glory and completely overwhelm mankind’s minds. But if that happened, our ability to choose not to love Him would be completely overwhelmed. God actually did something similar when He spoke to the Children of Israel while they were in the wilderness. It didn’t work out well at all, but it did get their attention as well as firmly establishing Moses as God’s spokesman and mediator, read about it here. (Exodus 19:10-20:20)
So God uses more subtle ways to reveal Himself and His plan. He uses His amazing creation of our environment to testify of His design ability, beauty, and provision for mankind. He uses the vastness of space to humble us (if we can be humbled). He has given us our senses to detect and observe our surroundings and He has also given us intellect so we can ponder what we see and how we are related to it. Scripture says that:
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him(give Him credit) as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen (Romans 1:18-25). So, just based on what we see and understand about our surroundings including the intricate workings of our bodies should convince us that there IS a Creator even though we would be lacking in our understanding about Him.
But God has done something else to further reveal Himself. He called out a special people to Himself, the Jews, to enter into a closer relationship with Him. They witnessed the plagues in Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea and saw and heard His majesty. When God camped in their midst in the wilderness tabernacle, they saw the pillar of fire over the top, the indication of His presence. To them was given the Law and instructions for life and the sacrificial system where the blood of innocent animals would cover their sins. After Moses, they had several prophets that would speak for God with faithful scribes taking notes. The Jews as a nation were supposed to show the rest of the world what a relationship with the One True God looked like (Exodus 19:5-6). The Jews (for now) have failed in that mandate because their relationship with God turned into a business, but I digress.
So now we have creation itself and the Jewish nation and their prophets as a witness of the reality of the One True God. But wait, there’s more. God has sent His Only Son to live among mankind so we could observe His actions and His words to complete our understanding of the nature of God. God plainly told us through His prophets that Jesus was coming and the things He would do 700 years before He arrived.
Now we come to the way God has verified His words, by telling the future before it happens. Since God lives outside of time, He has a unique perspective on our timeline. It is similar to use watching a long parade going by at street level while someone else has a more God-like view in a helicopter. God sees the beginning and the end all at the same time. (Isaiah 46:9-10) … For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure.’ The Bible is full of future telling which are called prophecies. Here is a link to 351 specific prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. Not only are these prophecies serving as a validation of God’s messages, they also serve to inform us of what is still future for us as in most of the book of Revelation. An easy one we can see coming and relate to today is the prophecy about the Mark of the Beast.
He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name (Revelation 13:15-17). It is pretty interesting that up until now there was really no specific way to accomplish this on a world-wide scale. But now, with the advent of computers and satellite internet, it is entirely possible. In fact, this type of system is already working in China’s social score system and it is evident even to the common man that there is a globalist push for a cashless society.
So, is it Reasonable to Believe that Our Creator has Communicated with Us? Yes, through the witness of His creation (nature) and through His special people (the Jews) and also through His written word (The Bible) and finally, through His Son, Jesus, God in flesh and blood, the ultimate revelation of God to mortal mankind. Though He has communicated with us the real question is: is anybody listening? How about you? Today is the day of salvation. We assume but none of us really “know” if we will be breathing earth’s air tomorrow. Please accept your rightful place in God’s Plan while you can, here’s how.
- THIS JUST IN!
In a creepy “end-times” development, now this: The Giants are Coming. “He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak…” So, this 10 story Giant can move its arms talk and sings and anybody’s image can be displayed on it. So much fun at least (for now) until people are commanded to bow before the image at the threat of death.
