A Dangerous Prayer
Dear friend, I have no idea where you are in life, but perhaps you have lived long enough to observed mankind’s struggle with good and evil and have even experienced a good and evil mini-war within you. No doubt, you have heard many ideas and theories from people about the purpose of life.
I have come to believe that the purpose of life desired by our Creator is a purpose that is often obscured by the necessary, and sometimes, overwhelming details and struggles of life. God’s purpose is that we establish an intimate and ongoing relationship with Him, His way.
Perhaps you are at a point where your own mortality is becoming a question looming larger and larger and you fear the future.
Maybe you know within yourself that something is definitely missing in your life and you sense that you have an unfulfilled “God shaped hole” in you.
It’s possible that you feel, and somewhat believe, that there is a God and have sensed that He is somehow pursuing you through timing, circumstances and answered prayers.
Perhaps you are at a point in your life where you can see that life is a struggle and you think that a secure anchor would be a great help but you don’t where to turn or what to do.
Maybe shattered relationships, addictions and poor choices have resulted in you being in a place of pain where the seductive whisper of thought that encouraged your poor choices is now saying that the pain will end, only if you end your life and the scary thing is that that suggestion seems plausible.
It could be that you are at a stage of life where your career has ended and you feel like you are now considered a worthless “has-been” or a “once was.”
If any of the above generalizations touch on who you are or where you are at in life, perhaps you should consider a dangerous prayer like this one.
God of Abraham, Isaiah and Jacob, The God of the Bible. I need your help but I just don’t know if you are really there. With so much lying and deception in this world and within other religions, I don’t know who to trust. If You are The Loving and Merciful God that offers eternal life to those that seek You with a whole heart as Your scriptures say, I am ready to submit myself to You and take my place in Your plan. But first I need some help. I humbly ask you to please provide me with some confirmation that you are really there and really care about me. And please do it in a way that I will clearly understand. Dear God, I ask this in the name of Jesus who is said to be the Savior You sent.
Amen.
God says: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart”Jeremiah 29:11-13.
While you are waiting for confirmation, why not read John’s eyewitness account of what Jesus did and said, and come to your own conclusion about who Jesus was and is and whether or not he deserved to be put to death. I suggest reading through the Gospel of John, or even better, studying along with Joe Focht, Pastor of the Philadelphia Calvary Chapel (my Bible teacher). Give God some quiet prime time and see what happens. What do you have to loose? Actually, you have a lot to gain. Peace now and great hope for the future.
Why do I call this a “dangerous prayer?” Because in accord with the sincerity of your heart I am pretty confident that God will respond and then you will have a life-changing decision in front of you.
