A Fascinating Parallel Between Isaac, and Yeshua (Jesus)

Both were, only sons

Isaac was Abraham's only legal son.

Genesis 22:2
Then He said, "Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

Note: The son that God promised Abraham was supposed to be from a union between Abraham and his wife Sarai. Sarai tried to help God out by substituting her Egyptian maidservant Hagar, instead of herself. Abraham agreed with the plan and a son Ishmael was born. Notice in the above verse, God only recognizes Isaac, as the real son. Isaac was a result of a supernatural miracle from God while Ishmael, was the product of a carnal (man made) plan.

Jesus was God's only Son

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

They were sons that were loved by their fathers

See the underlined section in the above verse

Matthew 3:17
And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

The sacrifices occurred at the same place

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide;  as it is said to this day, "In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided."

The sacrifice was to be at the same location, the words "will" and "shall", show that Abraham understood the symbolism when he named the place. It was looking ahead to the time when another Father would feel anguish, when His Son, (the seed of Abraham), was  the sacrificial Lamb to take away the sins of the world. The place where Yeshua was sacrificed, Golgotha is located on the upper end of the Mt. Moriah ridge.

They both had wood on their backs

Isaac carried the wood that he would be burned upon, on his back.

Genesis 22:6
So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together.

Jesus carried the wooden cross, the one that he would be sacrificed upon, on his back

John 19:17
And He (Yeshua), bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,

Isaac and Yeshua both disappear

After the sacrifice, there is no record of Isaac coming down the mountain with Abraham.

Gen 22:19
So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

The next time Isaac is mentioned in the scripture, he is coming for his bride

Genesis 24:62 -64
Now Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he dwelt in the South. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels were coming. Then Rebecca lifted her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from her camel;

Yeshua after the resurrection, goes to be with the Father in Heaven. His next appearance is when he appears to take His bride.

John 14:2 -3
"In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

More about the Bride of Christ

Note: In the verse to the left, "Beer Lahai Roi" means "well of living water". This is reminiscent of what Yeshua promised the woman at the well, when He offered her "living water".

John 4:10Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
